Crazy Weather

Raining at just after 5 when I got up, by the time the coffee was finished it had turned to snow and in just a matter of minutes the ground was white. Finally quit about 10 then rained again for a while, then more snow and now at just after 3 sky is clearing and its getting colder. Am sure somebody somewhere is wearing shorts and flip flops.

Put a small boneless pork loin roast in the slow cooker about 9 am, had thought to shred it for sandwiches but changed my mind and at 3 added 2 large local carrots and half a dozen nugget sized potatoes. Will be enuff for tonight and tomorrow and then sandwiches for lunch for a couple of days more.

Sock knitting goes well, have the blue Monstersocks almost to the toe and the brown-lies not far behind, hopefully will finish the blue ones tonight while Monday Nite Football is on. HR once socks are done will get started on OJ II, am going to try and get the best features of two patterns I have for sock monkeys, the Knit Picks and the one I used for Julius and OJ I, so won't be anything I can take to knitting bee on Wednesday. Will maybe start socks out of some of the Kaffe Fasset Regia on hand. Bought at Little Knits in Seattle when Gail & I stopped on our way to Conference last June.

Winter is coming

One of my most disliked 'winter is coming' chores is finally finished, got big down comforter out and inside its flannel cover. Seem to want to put off the change until I wake up cold several mornings. Am now good for anything winter and my cold bedroom can throw at me. Of course with window still open and door closed so no heat gets in there, my own fault for waking up cold, not any more. Using a non matching flannel top sheet this go round just so I won't have to wash the cover quite so often. So am back to sleeping on flannel, in flannel and under flannel, sure felt good last night going right from my shower into bed. And it really wasn't very cold 22° when I last checked last night (around 10 pm) and same this morning when I got up just before 6 am.

Will take both pair of socks with me to knitting be today, had thought that I might bring a spinning wheel, but already have enuff handspun on hand and the 2 new pair of socks will nicely fit in the rotation. Planning (for today's knitting bee), curried tuna salad sandwiches, with real mayo (Hellmans only), medium curry powder, and albacore tuna on homemade whole wheat bread.

Pix is a stolen shot of the Niut Mountains someplace above the valley I live in, tuff living in here, with views like this.

Eat your heart out MJM.

Darned time change

Up way to early this morning (again), will take another couple of days before change agrees with my sleep habits. So answering email until its light enuff in wool room to start spinning.

Delivered the bugly socks yesterday to Katie, she tried the final results on and they fit, and she seemed happy to have them. Not near as cold out yet as it will be, but socks like this would be a delight to sleep in. After doing the sock exchange carried on to the dump, and then to Tatla Lake for seniors lunch. Tatla Lake Manor does a full meal lunch every other Monday, yesterdays lunch was stuffed pork loin, scalloped potatoes, carrots & cauliflower and a big salad. When I have a meal like that at 1 pm my supper is usually very light, last night ate a banana, that was enuff.

Have been seeing a weasel over along my fence line, to far away and to fast to see what kind it is, only get a glimpse and then its into the bushes and out of sight.

Getting out all my Koigu and Cherry Tree Hill fingering weight yarns, trying to come up with a combo I like for maybe a multicolored shawl. Maybe being the operative word.

House

Insurance Co wanted pix of my house, guess to make sure I hadn't made any changes or improvements (NOT), so on the way to PO on Friday got the required two pix. This pix is the better of the two, taken from the south. Ain't fancy but its mine.

Finished the first Brownlie Monstersock yesterday, and got maybe the first 5 inches of 2nd sock done, while watching OR beat the bunnies off of USC, had hoped they would have done better, even MI got its tail whipped, guess Rich Rods way of doing things isn't working out very well. Hoping for better games today. But first will have a go at cleaning up kitchen and re cheesing a couple of mouse traps.

Remembered to set all (but one) clocks back last night and will get it on way thru house to kitchen.

Made chicken w/ rice soup yesterday so will have leftovers to night for supper thus giving uninterrupted time watching football.

Had enuff snow last night to make ground white (barely), but this morning the south wind is howling and temp well above freezing snow is melting fast. The wind keeps the wool room on the cool side, so today is the day of many layers, long sleeved mock turtle, with a heavy weight long sleeved tee shirt and then a wool sweater over all, had fingerless gloves on but find I don't type very well then. When and if it gets warm enuff to shed sweater will get spinning wheel going, still spinning the blue-green BFL from DiCentra.

Maybe later today I will take the scrap bugly socks up to Katie so she will have them to wear. Had told her that I wanted to take them and show at OFFF and Desert Mesa. Will include a small ball of extra bugly yarn in case they need to be darned.

Nearly to the toe of the first brownlie Monstersock, once its finished will do a bunch on 2nd blue Monstersock, will soon have two new pair to add to my sock box. Figure the more I have the less wear on each pair, hope that's figuring right. The only pair I have had get thin was some Opal silk blend, won't use any more of that for socks, think I have one more ball in the stash. The 2 pair of Regia silk blend that I have have held up well, amazing the difference.

Lest I forget a pix of my driveway from the winter of 08 twas a really interesting year.

Same ole, same ole

Has been trying to snow all morning, here a flake, there a flake. But so far nothing seems to be hanging together. Working on 2 pair of Monstersocks, first of the blue pair is done and the brownlies are well down the foot on sock #1. Will finish these two pair and the handspun pair, then will switch gears and go into sock monkey mode, never fear HR Orange Julius II is in the queue.

Am in the process of making contact via Facebook with several first cousins in Ontario, haven't seen any of them since I was last there in 04, guess the only way I will ever see any of them again is to make the long drive across the country one more time, maybe 2010 will be the year. If I leave here mid August can do the drive and visit all along the way then plan on being back in BC mid October, ahead of winter (maybe). Will see how finances are next year and decide then. If I do it that way means I will miss OFFF, but family is important to me and I miss not seeing the brothers, nieces and nephews and the cousins.

Back from Desert Mesa

Left Cache Creek a bit after lunch on Sunday and went as far as Williams Lake, stayed overnight at friends and then got into all 3 of the grocery stores on Monday. With the 4 summer tires in the back of the car didn't have a whole lot of room but did get quite a bit of produce, bread, milk etc. Even got a case lot of chicken broth, it sat in the back with the tires as did the TP and Kleenex, should be OK now all winter for paper products. Gail brought up to CC 12 cans sockeye salmon from Costco, they didn't have any when I was last there.

A bag of sisal fiber was given to everyone as a challenge for either next spring or fall, somehow I missed getting a bag (heck & darn, tongue in cheek), one of the best thoughts I heard was to compose fiber and bring back a cucumber or such for the gal that had the idea of this stuff. Jeff the one guy there spun some on his wheel then plied it on a Navajo spindle, not a lot of fun to spin or ply, good on him for getting as much done as he did,

I save all my leftover bits, thrums kind of stuff for Gudie, she does marvelous stuff with my leftovers, a far more vivid imagination than I have. Pix of my Monstersocks in the pile of bits. She is going to email me a pix of some of the designer yarn she will be doing. Pix of the wheel is a new one to me, its a wheel from Australia and a pendulum wheel, while gal was treadling the pendulum slowly swung back & forth. Fascinating to watch.

Last pix just a shot of small part of the group there, think I heard 46 were there, 2 cancellations due to health concerns. Perfect group of my BC family. Many thanks to Shelia and Donna for another wonderful weekend.

Loading the car

The big load is done, have the 4 (beasts) snow tires in the far back of the car, spinning wheel standing up and belted in on back seat, now only smaller stuff to go in, suitcase, toiletries bag, knitting etc. piece of cake Some last minute stuff can be done in the morning, since I am staying in over night don't have to be away at the break of day. Lorelee invited me for supper so I won't end up with any thing leftover in fridge, and anything in there that might spoil will go with me for either L or Dee

Brown sock is OK with the extra 4 stitches decreased, after last instep dec I did 1 round even then dec at instep spot as well as 2 sts off the top of the foot. How do I spell relief.

Snow is melting fast and no more is in the forecast (yeehaw), I knew with winter tires on the car for upcoming trip the roads all the way to Cache Creek would be bare and dry. Reverse psychology. But this time of the year better safe than sorry. Should be home either late Sunday or mid day on Monday.

Ground all white

ut of

Woke up this morning to 20° temps and the ground all white. Not much out there yet maybe an inch but its still coming down with a strong north wind pushing it sideways. Hopefully it warms up a bit and snow melts before I head into town on Thursday.

Brown sock hit the frog pond yesterday, was way to wide at foot and ankle, dropped a bunch of stitches and a needle size and its just marginally better this go round. May have to go back and get rid of even more stitches but before doing that will dec down maybe another 4 stitches after finishing the gusset decreases. If that doesn't do the job will be back in frog pond.

Electric wheel works sort of. When the second flyer arm broke off I knew it would be badly out of balance and it sure was, was able to push piece that broke off back in place, by checking on it every few minutes might get some stuff plied so I have empty bobbins to bring with to Desert Mesa. Will get some super glue of some sort while in town on Thursday. Its called a baling twine repair but hey if it works am all for it.

Have a laundry basket in living room with stuff I am wanting to take with me to DM as soon as I think of something I go straight away and get it and add it to the basket, lite weight fleece blanket, my pillow, leatherman for emergency repairs, rug to go down under wheel while spinning and so on.

busy week

Will get started on laundry today, if sun is shining stuff will dry overnight in combination with ceiling fan. Then Monday have to go to Tatla Lake for various errands, Tuesday will be for sorting stuff I am taking to DM (make me an offer stuff), then Wednesday will be loading car, packing etc. Snow tires are the first thing to get in the back, about all I can lift, then the stuff , suitcase etc. to go to DM. Will head into Williams Lake on Thursday with a small list, getting snow tires on the car will be number one, then a much needed haircut, banking, used book store and prolly 4 or 5 more things. Will stay Wm's Lake Thursday night with friends then will meet up with Elisabeth & Glenda for Chinese in 100 Mile House on Friday.

Had my propane stoves serviced on Friday, he replaced thermo coupler in the main house stove and will do so with the wool room stove on Monday, its he thinks should have a new thermo pile and will have picked it up yesterday in town. Will be a major relief knowing that they will be in good shape for upcoming winter. Stove sellers in Wm's Lk would rather not come out here to service anything or if they happen to come west the travel time etc is almost the price of a new stove. This guy is from Smithers and was visiting family here in the valley over TG, and is licensed, a real bonus. Once or twice in past years both stoves have gone wonky on me (not at same time fortunately) usually during a January arctic cold front.

Brown sock is down past the heel, will start gusset decreases later today, still for some odd reason like it. Usually when I have had to rip and redo in the past it goes immediately into unloved but must be finished mode .

Trying to snow

Trying really hard to snow this morning, but don't think its going to go any where with the effort, sun is about to come over east mountains and then temps will creep up. Last nights predicted low was 5° but Mother Nature had other ideas, was right on 30° when I got to see thermometer just before 7 am.

Bobbins waiting to be plied. My electric spinning wheel that I use for plying tipped over and the arm on the flyer broke off, not sure yet if its going to be balanced enuff to work, will give it a go this morning to see. Will be dead in the water if it doesn't work as its so old I doubt if there are any left laying about anywhere. Its the jumbo head from the old Sleeping Beauty wheel circa early 80's, I had a spare but this was working so well I sold it to someone else.

The bobbin of the lightest color is super wash merino from Eweniquely Ewe in Grants Pass, OR, http://eweniquelyewe.etsy.com have
started the second 8 oz, it will be going into plying queue when its done. Do wish I didn't put off plying until most of my bobbins are full, just not my favorite part of the job.

The brown is going to be socks, handspun from my stash. Liking the way that just 4 colors work. Had briefly thought about adding a bit of the pumpkin color but in the end decided it just didn't work.

Urge to make a sweater

Just downloaded some free patterns from Knitting Daily, its been a long time since I've wanted to make a sweater but the Gansey just about had me looking for enuff yarn to start. Its knit the way I especially like doing them from the waist up and then fronts and back are the patterned parts, may have to give some serious thought to doing one. Will check and see what I might have on hand that would fit the bill. Pix I have on desktop won't load onto blogger, heck & darn.

Tuesday, October 06, 2009

Freezing hard now most nights, nice for sleeping but a tad bit chilly in studio first thing, once sun comes in over east mountains gets quite pleasant, can then turn heat off. Can see a big difference in the color of the poplar trees just since I got home Friday. It is the time of the year that I like best.

Washed the two pair of mittens in Eucalan complete with agitation for 5 minutes hoping they would tighten up a bit, think the lighter gray pair did a bit. Was afraid to leave them in to long lest they really fulled.

The new book Homespun, Handknit was the only book I bought at OFFF, have had the first version of same for around 20 years, this new one is OK but like the first better. 16 oz of BFL was only other purchase from vendors, did get 2 lb of an alpaca-merino mix in navy from Cindie but it was ordered well before OFFF.

Big salad with lots of tomatoes for supper, along with a small can of salmon, good supper.

Home at last

The hockey puck has dropped and the hammer is about to fall. Got home Friday late afternoon, brought in perishables including another 20 lb real tomatoes, think I made 6 trips to the car and came in loaded every time. Got everything pretty much put away then sat down to watch 6 news, woke up well after 12 cold so quickly got a shower and into bed. Still another 2 or 3 loads to be brought in, spinning wheel, chairs and suitcase with dirty clothes.

Woke up Saturday to snow falling, just barely below freezing. Will be going back thru town on my way south to Desert Mesa and will get snow tires on the car before I head down to Cache Creek. Will on that trip (heading home) get in as much stuff as possible (like TP, Kleenex other staples) so when I get home can hunker down and Mother Nature can let it rip. Bought quite a bit of things I use all winter at Costco and Superstore, like tuna, salmon, mayo, olive oil, etc., and pickled green beans for treats.

Installed new satellite TV receiver and was able to watch college football games yesterday, lousy weather and a big pot of beef vegetable soup simmering, not much better.

OFFF 2009

Left Canby Sunday after OFFF was over, drove all the way to BC Sunday night, too much. Especially since I was sick Sunday afternoon and slept in the car for almost 3 hours. But OFFF was awesome as usual with even bigger crowds, more vendor than I ever remembered. Bought some roving from DiCentra, the new Handspun, Handknit book, a set of Hiya Hiya dps size 4, not a whole lot more.

The herding dogs were right behind out spinning circles this year, portable fencing, worked great, dogs were herding ducks and did a really good job.

Will stay down to do Wed Nite Knitters and then head north on Thursday.

OFFF I go

Heading into Williams Lake tomorrow, much running around to do in town. Will go up to friends and stay overnight then south Wednesday morning. Can't get to Gail's on Wed. until after 5 so may visit with Sally until they get home from work.

Everything but small stuff is in the car, will load laptop and the rest in the morning, for a change I don't have to be on the road before it gets light. Just 3 hours into town and errands shouldn't take the rest of the day. Will get up to friends and relax. With a 3 hour head start the drive down to the coast should only be 7 hours instead of usual 10-11.

Will get lotsa pix at OFFF and if I can will blog from down in Canby.

Mittens

Felted-fulled the mittens yesterday, took a whole cycle of really hot water before they even started to tighten up, so ran it again checking about every two minutes. Well bingo the start of the second cycle was all it took, glad I checked when I did. Both fibers definitely full-felt, one from Reflection Farm and other an unknown breed bought at OFFF several years ago. Yesterdays pix showed mitts at a bit over 15 inches in length today's at just about 11 inches, yesterday I could get both hands and arms inside one mitt today they fit like mitts should. Am pleased with the results.

Unknown Roving

p
But I suspect it is some of the Beast roving from Brown Sheep in Nebraska, what ever it is and whatever the blend it sure is spinning up nice. Plan on spinning some white BFL to ply with it somewhere down the road, making what is called Ragg yarn. For earflappers after everything else is finished, someday.

Elis. said she thought I spin fast, not a chance just spend more time at it than most. Not a fan of daytime TV and never turn it on, the wool room on a nice sunny day is a joy to spend time spinning or knitting in. Have windows on 3 sides so can see any animals that might wander into my yard. And once sun comes over east mountain and sun warms room up can even shed my sweater and fingerless gloves. Frost this morning, hopefully it will get rid of the little boogers that come thru the screen when windows are open, making sure windows are shut up tight once it gets dark.

The way big mitts will be felted-fulled later today in the washing machine, hopefully to end up fitting a ladies average hand. Always somewhat of a crap shoot, not knowing how each fiber will react with the other and why I should have knit a square and tested it before doing the mitts. Bad me.

FO (finished object)

Watched the most of a football double header last night and got the 'unloved' gray socks done, reason I call them that is because a long time ago in a far away galaxy they had a bunch more colors and I didn't like what I had done, so frogged the whole sock. Top pix is the one of too many colors, then the final go and bottom pix is sock in my knitting bag at Sock Summit 09 waiting for the luminary panel to start. I got to get in a bit early by showing my handicapped card, after walking up to room needed to sit for awhile (gimpy hip).

Today is kind of cloudy and a bit cooler so should be easier on guys fighting the Lava Canyon fire. Last I heard they had brought in structure crews to try and save houses in the path of the fire. And AFAIK fire still hasn't jumped the road, when and if it does will likely wipe out power poles. Now if only the predicted rain would show up.

Plan on getting yarn on electric wheel into skeins today and the plying some of the bobbins in the queue,

Lorelee went to town yesterday and brought out lettuce, cucumbers, corn and some tzatziki, am good now I think until I go in on 22nd. Big salad, corn and leftover chicken strips for supper tonight. Love having leftovers.

Fires & Woolies

Finished another pair of mittens last night while watching dismal football game, must remember to skip these two teams in the future. Both teams looked like it was the first pre season game with all rookies, mittens are a combination of several different patterns ideas from Fox, Geese & Fences by Robin Hansen. Salt & Pepper pattern with some almost camo yarn and a denim-blue mix. Now back to the unloved gray socks, second sock well down the foot and with a Monday Night Football double header on tonight just might get them done.

Two bobbins on the left are from Abstract Fibers and 2 slightly different colors, BFL and other than the kempy fibers a delight to spin. Two bobbins on the right are from Crown Mtn Farms, superwash merino, maybe will get both plied today.

The Chilko (Lava Canyon) fire is growing again, 3 days of way warmer than normal weather and gusty winds picked it up and got it going again. Getting close to the road again, am looking forward to colder weather and early snow. Snow and lots of it is about all that will put these beasts out. Evacuation alerts for people living in the area on again. This years fire season will go down in record books as one of the biggest and nastiest since records started being kept.

LAVA CANYON FIRE CONTINUES TO CHALLENGE CREWS (Alexis Creek)
ALEXIS CREEK – With wind and unseasonably high temperatures today, fire fighters at the Lava Canyon wildfire are being challenged with spot fires and aggressive fire behaviour. Fire weather specialists expect unpredictable, gusty winds to continue through the day.

Hot, dry conditions and winds yesterday pushed the fire toward the established fuel-free guard along the north flank. The fire size is now estimated at 64,500 hectares, or 645 square kilometres.

Stuff

Profane truck (whoops mean propane) was just in so should be set now until sometime in January (if I am lucky). This mornings temps were in low the 30's so instead of turning propane heaters on I just wore my woolies until sun came over east mountains and warmed up wool room. One good thing is price is 20¢ a liter cheaper than this time last year.

Still spinning on the s/w merino from CMF seems like its taking forever to get 2nd bobbin finished. Spinning it quite fine and that of course adds to the slowness, patience grasshopper.

Looking forward to heading south and OFFF later this month, will leave here 2 weeks from tomorrow, then Gail and I head south early Friday morning, get into Canby I hope in time for a Thai food supper. Doris and her Mom are going to be joining us this year, Doris will pull her 5th wheel down and find a campground close by. Gail & I will be in our usual motel in Wilsonville along with several dozen other OFF'ers.

Much cooler temps have slowed fires down, some won't be out until snow flies but at least they aren't growing like they were a week or so ago.

same ole, same ole

Just got in my 45 minute morning spinning, will do more after I have my breakfast. Still the same superwash merino from CMF, but pix of the roving on the ironing board is IMO much better without so much sunlight. 2nd bobbin of the mix well underway, hope to finish it sometime over the weekend, then to ply and get it washed to take with me down to OFFF.

Got about 10 minutes rain last night, such a foreign sound it woke me up just after midnight, its been a long time since we had any that it sounded magical. Not enuff tho to help any with fire situation, pix shows fire within about 3 miles of highway 20, the main east-west artery for getting in and out of the Chilcotin. If fire continues at present speed will I am sure soon close the road.

Off to have my tomatoes on toast, the mostest perfect breakie ever. Especially on homemade whole wheat bread.

Superwash Merino

Finished the first half of CMF superwash merino first thing this morning, when I get home later (from knitting bee) will start on second half. First was spun from the right side of whats on ironing board and next bobbin will be from left side. Might make it interesting. Hard to believe that whats on ironing board and filled bobbin are the same stuff.

Knitting bee today is in Kleena Kleene about 30+ miles from here will be picking up Joyce in Tatla Lake just after 10 am then about another 20 minutes or so to KK. Might get a view of some of the smoke filled skies from somewhere up that way, they are about 1000 feet higher than I am down in valley. Fires in Chilko continue, still pretty much out of control, read that they figured 5 % containment, not much when its almost 500 square miles. Cooler weather is on the way and that will help almost as much as anything, even some rain in forecast (but that doesn't mean much, rarely produces anything).

Nice looking little buck in the yard a couple of days ago, took 4 pix before I got one that was usable, he moved around quite a bit.

Taking the (unloved) handspun sock to work on today, ready to start on the heel. Will be glad to see them finished.

Fire url

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2009/08/30/bc-forest-fires.html?ref=rss

Fire is even bigger than I've been saying, over 300 sq miles now and still growing, 0% containment. The smaller communities around Punzi and all the way to Bull Canyon are now under evacuation alerts, as far as I've heard the road isn't closed yet but likely any time now. I have to go thru Punzi and Bull Canyon to get to town, glad I've just been.

Fire & FO's

Did the quick & dirty trip to town yesterday, left Tatlako just before 7 and was in town at a few minutes after 10, went up to DR office straight away and got in a few minutes early, B/P good and prescription refills. Then across the street to Sears to talk again about my less than one year old washing machine, crappy stuff Sears sells. All they will say is bring it in. Means I have to find some to come and unhook it (big $$$) then haul it town town (more big $$$), then when its repaired back into town and haul it out here again, more $$$ again. Believe me I am less than impressed with Sears S***. Picked up a new TV satellite receiver, had oil change in car, got a haircut and even got in lunch with a friend at a new to me place in the puddle, into 2 of our local grocery stores and a stop at the Husky produce stand for some corn, and was still home just before 7 pm.

Coming home the smoke and red glow in the sky from the big Chilko (Lava Canyon fire) was awful, was as bad as I have ever seen it and if fire continues to grow I can see a day in the not to distant future that the road will be closed.

Finished the handspun fingerless gloves, the almost camo color from Crown Mtn pencil roving, actually had both done a few weeks ago but when trying them on realized one was way bigger than the other, sure enuff had lots of extra rows in the bigger one so frogged the biggie and redid from the ribbing.

Merino figured out

Have decided to spin each of the two colors of merino super wash separately. So as I pull off a piece from the circle on my chair I split it in half and lay one over the ironing board, will then spin it in the same order as I am spinning the first pieces. Think this is the best solution to the 2 different colors of roving. Seems like my fingers are remembering merino again, takes a few minutes to be comfortable with it after spinning BFL.

Frost again this morning, and for second morning now have seen a coyote crossing the yard from north heading south, looked like it had something in its mouth this morning, maybe a mouse or a vole (one less to get in the house later).

I will be heading down to Oregon Flock & Fiber Fair mid September and will pick up a few things at Fred Meyers before crossing the border (stuff so far I can't get here) then a major order at the SuperStore in Langley in BC, stuff like TP, Kleenex and so on, the getting ready for winter stock up starts. Want to be as prepared as I can before first snow falls, nothing worse than living 3 hours from town and find that there is no more Kleenex or TP.

SS & Merino

2 more pix from Sock Summit, I didn't take either one. Have permission to put them on my blog from JTDalzell and Otrembarific. The last one is the crowd at the Luminary Panel talk the last thing, I am sitting on right side of the 3rd row, teachers were in the first two rows. Joy on her scooter is to my left. First pix is Steph, Meg Swansen, Barbara Walker and Tina.

Then two slightly different colors of superwash merino, not at all what I had in mind when I ordered it. Will send pix to Crown Mtn to see if its OK to ply the 2 together, if not will spin & ply separately. The joys of living so far away from suppliers.

Frost this morning, yeehaw should help do in the sneaky little bugs that come thru the screen at night, was so bad when it was really hot that I mostly kept windows close to lights closed.

Pix

Playing around with blogspot, finally figured out how to add a pix to the header. Tatlayoko Lake with the Homathko River coming in at the north end. River at this time of year is pretty small when its high water pretty well doubles in size.

Finished spinning the BFL will now move on to the superwash merino from Crown Mtn Farms, not much else new and excitingly different in my wild mountain valley, just the way I like it. Did cool off last night was +2 or 36° F at just before 6 this morning, ended up pulling comforter up over me sometime during the night. First good frost will at least get rid of the small biting bugs that slip thru the screen.

The redux, rehash handspun sock

This is the unloved handspun sock that got the redux before I left for SS09, had 4 more colors in it and IMO just didn't work. This is much better the colors seem to be working together instead of screaming at each other.

First sock finished yesterday at knitting bee in Tatla Lake. Have already cast on for 2nd sock, will think about taking them to OFFF for judging, but will see them after they are washed before I decide for sure.

Not terribly happy with blogspot this morning, words are not showing up where I want them, tried several times in earlier post to move the the first word 'The' with no luck. Am sure this entry will be jumbled up as well. I tried getting the pix involved first and putting words where I wanted them, made no difference when it was up on blog they went where ever.

More stuff

The practically perfect lunch, only change at supper was to open a can of black eyed peas and add some onion, (beans were) for protein. And sometimes I have cottage cheese along with.

The Lorna's Laces sock I was working on at SS, had several more inches done but one of the colors kept screaming at me, just wasn't working so to shut it up I pulled the ugly out.

There is a big fire at what is locally referred to as Lava Canyon over in the Brittany Triangle (Chilko area), last night the smoke from the fire filled our valley so bad I could no longer see the big mountains to the west. Its a very small bit better this morning but I still have all the windows shut. Since there are no houses in the way forest service is kind of letting it burn. Last time they did that they almost regretted it when fire really took off and got kind of close to Alexis Creek.

I wanted to add the pix of the other sock I was working on at SS but can't seem to get pix and words to line up so will post this then do another entry with the rest of the pix.
